Deloitte’s 2021 Millennial and Gen Z survey reveals that after a year of intense uncertainty due to the Covid-19 pandemic, political instability, racial discord and severe climate events, millennials and Gen Zs around the world are determined to hold themselves and others accountable on society’s most pressing issues. Key findings include health and employment have climbed to the list of top concerns, and millennials and Gen Zs also remain deeply concerned about climate change and the environment. The data also shows that the stigma around mental health challenges in the workplace remains, with about a third of respondents reporting they have taken time off work due to stress and anxiety caused by the pandemic.
The report emphasises that these younger generations want to work for companies with a purpose beyond profit – companies that share their values – and that they feel more empowered to make a difference as part of their organisations. For these reasons, focusing on creating a positive impact in society and giving employees ways to get involved and give back will be key to attract and retain talent.
